Furano
Central Hokkaido's quiet, dry-cold powder
Village & Travel
The village & getting to Furano
A working Hokkaido town
Furano is an actual town — famous in summer for its lavender fields and dairy — rather than a purpose-built resort. That means genuine Japanese restaurants, curry-soup counters, ramen shops and izakaya frequented by locals, plus reasonable prices and a calm, unhurried feel.
Stay slopeside at Kitanomine for ski-in convenience, or in town for the food and local life, with a short shuttle to the lifts.
Beyond the slopes
Central Hokkaido is winter-wonderland country. Drift over the snow-covered valley on a dawn hot-air balloon flight, drill through a frozen lake for wakasagi smelt on a guided ice-fishing trip (cooked into tempura on the spot), or ride a snowmobile across open fields. Cap it with an onsen and a Hokkaido kaiseki dinner.

Getting there
The quickest route is via Asahikawa Airport (AKJ), about an hour away by transfer. From Hokkaido's main gateway, New Chitose (CTS), it's roughly 2.5 hours by van or the train-and-bus combination.
